The strange thing is how willing some Apple people are to accept Apple's sub-par quality AND sup-par customer service.
I mean, think about it objectively for a moment.
If Dell had manufactured PCs with cooling systems that leak and spray coolant all over the floor before dying, laptops with exploding batteries (oops), laptops with 1/2 the problems of the MBs or the MBPs, the Mac press would be all over it.
Even if Dell rushed to fix it (as they did with their own battery recall), Mac-heads would still be bashing the hell out of them. In fact, they were for a while over the battery thing -- that Dell's recall demonstrated why they're unworthy and why people should buy Apple -- until Apple had its own recall.
Then they fell into an "at least Apple is fixing it" line -- which is OK, except that so many of these new systems are failing and not just once, but multiple times. Is it reasonable to have to send a computer in four or five times for repairs, and lose over a month's worth of use out of a machine with a useful life of about 12 months? Is it reasonable to have to shell out an extra $300 for AppleCare to ensure that when (not if, but when) it breaks again, you're still covered -- especially when you've already paid almost twice as much for the Apple computer as for a comparable Wintel machine?
Asking these simple questions drives some of the Apple faithful absolutely insane -- it's as though we who got burnt by Apple's shoddy products and poor customer service should be grateful that they're benevolent enough to sell us their products in the first place or something. |
